Private Harold Francis Worth
Harold Francis Worth was born on 15 November 1892 at 14 Gilbert Road, Wimbledon, Surrey, the fourth of seven children of registration clerk Edward James Worth and his wife Mary Anne (nee Spong). Educated at the Licensed Victuallers School in Lambeth, London, by 1911 he was living with his parents and four brothers at 15 Montagu Road, Wimbledon, and working as a finance clerk.
It appears that on the outbreak of war he was living in Ireland with his older brother William Robert Worth. On 19 February 1915 they enlisted in the North Irish Horse at Antrim – Harold was issued regimental number 1451 (later Corps of Hussars No.71388).
The brothers embarked for France on 17 November 1915 with F Squadron. Little more is known of Harold's subsequent military service. By mid-1917 he had returned to the North Irish Horse reserve depot at Antrim (perhaps following illness, injury or a wound).
He was transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve, on 30 May 1919.
After ther war Worth returned to England. He married Doris Lilian Collis in 1933 at Kingston, Surrey. He died on 5 February 1935 at 147 Nork-way, Banstead, Surrey.
In addition to William, at least one other of Worth's five brothers served in the war – German Bertram Worth served briefly in the Middlesex Regiment, and later in the Royal Irish Rifles.
